Coronavirus Update 2

Most of you would have received my previous communication about our ongoing response to the coronavirus.

I am pleased to be able to provide a further update regarding how the leadership across our four schools is thinking about and responding to the challenges currently being presented by the presence of the COVID-19 virus in Tasmania.

Many would be aware that the Minister for Education, Mr Jeremy Rockliff, recently announced a range of ‘social-distancing’ guidelines for schools. These align with changes that our schools were already considering or had put in place.

As of today, a range of ‘social distancing’ measures are now in place and the following gatherings have been cancelled or may be re-scheduled;

  • assemblies,

  • presentation nights,

  • excursions,

  • travel,

  • fetes or fairs,

  • concerts (with audiences),

  • sports carnivals,

  • camps (both local and interstate) and

  • face to face parent teacher meetings.

Self-excluding

We understand that some parents at this time may choose to keep their child/ren at home. If you have decided to do this then please ensure that you have let the school know. This will allow us to determine the best way to support your child/ren in their teaching and learning while they are away from class.

Forward planning / online learning

This evening the senior leadership across our schools and organisation are meeting together to discuss how best to ensure the continuity of our teaching and learning programmes should it be determined that our schools need to close for an extended period. Our desire moving forward is to not lose sight of our purpose to provide Excellence in Christian Education. To this end we will be working diligently to support your child/ren during any absence with ongoing teaching and learning, but also in regards to their physical, mental and spiritual health and wellbeing.

Additional support provided as needed

We understand that the uncertainty for students and families in such circumstances can require additional support. Should any student require additional emotional support at this time, we invite students or their families to discuss this with their class teachers or seek a meeting with your school counsellor or chaplain.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please speak with your school Principal or me directly. These are obviously challenging times for everyone however through prayer, and with wisdom and diligence, and working together in community, we can all support each other.

May God bless you and your family at this time.
