Many of you would be aware of the plans that were announced this morning for Tasmanian Government schools in Term 2, specifically that Term 2 will commence on Tuesday 28 April, with Monday 27 April being deemed a Professional Learning Day.
Unlike Tasmanian Government schools, Christian Schools Tasmania commenced distance learning programs for Calvin, Channel, Emmanuel and Northern Christian Schools on Wednesday 1 April, with Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 March being Teacher Preparation Days. These days were extremely valuable in allowing our amazing teaching and support staff to prepare for each school’s distance learning program to ‘go live’ on Wednesday, and to also compile and distribute hundreds of ‘home pack’ for students engaging in our distance learning programs at home.
I am extremely proud of all of our staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure that what we are delivering to our students at this time is still a quality educational program. We have already received many positive comments from our parent community in relation to this, and I thank all of our wonderful parents, carers and students for continuing to partner with us at this challenging time, and for your ongoing support.
I have the utmost confidence that we will be able to continue to provide a quality distance learning program for your child both now and through Term 2. Although our intention was to have minimal disruption to our distance learning programs, the leadership across our schools believe that allowing for an additional Teacher Preparation Day on what would have been the first day of Term 2 (i.e. Monday 27 April) will be valuable for our teaching staff. It will also allow our schools time to collate and distribute any additional home packs that may be required for students in Term 2.
With that in mind, I am announcing to all families of Calvin, Channel, Emmanuel and Northern Christian Schools, that Term 2 for students will commence on Tuesday 28 April, with Monday 27 April being a Teacher Preparation Day. As was the case with the recent Teacher Preparation Days, our campuses will remain open to any students who are unable to be supervised at home. No teaching and learning will be delivered on this day. Our distance learning programs will recommence on Tuesday 28 April.
Due to ensuring curriculum needs are being met, students undertaking TASC 3 and 4 subjects will be required to access work via SEQTA on Monday, noting that although there will not be any video-conferencing or 'live' lessons for these subjects on this day, there will be work for students to complete.
Should you have any questions about this announcement, please contact your school directly to discuss their arrangements.
